Chez Alice is situated on an acre plot on the slopes of Crofters Valley in Noordhoek.
One can sit on the verandah looking out at the Atlantic Ocean glistening on the horizon. From the upstairs bedrooms the view is wide and spectacular, encompassing the vast 8km stretch of Noordhoek beach, Chapman’s Peak and surrounding mountains.

The house is a 10 minute drive from the beach. This fabulous wild stretch of sand is great for jogging or long invigorating walks, while the rocks and small cove at the Noordhoek end provide wee sheltered nooks for family picnics.
The sea is cold, but on a hot day an invigorating quick dip is to be recommended. Noordhoek has good waves for surfing and the long stretch of sand is popular for horse riding. There are several stables in the area which provide horse riding excursions.
From time to time a lagoon forms on part of the beach and this attracts a large array of seabirds….flamingoes, oystercatchers, spoonbills, terns etc….. I have even seen kingfishers on the river estuary at the Kommetjie end of the beach.

Noordhoek Common is 5 minutes drive from the house. This is a grassy area with old oak trees, grazing horses and wee paths by the stream, which makes for an enchanted place for children to play.

There are two small complexes of restaurants and pubs within 5/10 minutes drive :

The Farm Village with deli, several restaurants , coffee and gift shops is situated on Noordhoek main road.
The Red Herring pub and other restaurants are situated on Beach Road.

Silvermine nature reserve, with many hiking trails, is a 10 minute drive from the house.

The 9km long Chapman’s Peak drive leads you from Noordhoek to Hout Bay. This is a breathtaking ‘James Bond’ style coastal drive. There are several picnic areas en route, ideal for stopping at sunset to watch the sun sink into the Atlantic Ocean.

Witsands beach, popular for kite surfing, is a 15 minute drive from the house. From here one can follow the ‘Strandloper’ trail, several kilometers of path along the rocky coastline to Scarborough. At low tide this part of coastline is ideal for collecting mussels. ( a permit is required, and can be bought at the post office for 100 rand).

The Cape of Good Hope nature reserve is a further 10/15 minute drive from Witsands. The actual Cape Point, where one can stand at the end of Africa, is very busy with tourists.
However, within the vast 7750 hectares of the reserve, for those that don’t enjoy the crowds, there are secluded beaches, tidal pools, picnic areas and wild areas of fragrant fynbos vegetation.
